Coffee in Bengaluru has entered its slightly overachieving era. The city that once happily ran on filter kaapi and instant coffee now has opinions on processing methods, single origins, roasters and the difference between a good pour-over and a very good one. But the fun part is that Bengaluru’s new coffee places are not all trying to out-specialty each other. The Kind makes coffee worth paying attention to with manual brews, house-blend espressos and even a Zen Table, while Ajji House by Subko brings its coffee obsession into a more intimate setting. ARAKU turns the bean into an experience of its own, and Still Coffee keeps things focused with its multi-roaster approach.

Then there are the cafés making a case for coffee as something more than a caffeine stop. Copper + Cloves brings specialty coffee together with wellness and community at The Studio, while Off Ground pairs coffee with pickleball. Grumpy Girl Coffee keeps things playful with drinks like cookie butter lattes and mango matcha, alongside bagels and sandos. Kinya Coffee, meanwhile, offers an easy neighbourhood stop, somewhere to settle in with a good cup or disappear for an hour.

And perhaps the most interesting shift is the move back towards the farm. Maverick & Farmer brings coffee from its 140-acre estate in Pollibetta, Coorg, to Bengaluru, where it is roasted daily, while Nandan Coffee brings its Kodaikanal estate to Embassy One, complete with a Filter Kaapi Bar and contemporary drinks. Put together, these places make Bengaluru’s coffee scene feel less like a trend and more like a city figuring out what it wants from its daily cup, whether that means a meticulous pour-over, a playful latte, a filter kaapi or simply a good coffee in a good place.
